Social Media Marketing Tips

#1 Pick ONE social media platform and make it your “home”

This is a mistake I made early on that costs me a lot of time and frustration.  I would highly recommend you pick only one social media platform that you’re consistent and present on.  With so many options like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, IG, Snapchat, etc. it’s very easy to want to jump ship and be present on them all and I would advise against it.  Now, that doesn’t mean you can’t have a presence on several but I would focus on one in the beginning, learn it and master it before trying to learn others.

#2 Your profile picture needs to be of YOU

I mention this a lot but it’s one piece of advice I’ll keep mentioning over and over.  If you are trying to build a successful business then you need to understand that people will look you up.  The first thing I do when I receive a friend request or a message is I go to their profile.  All too often I can’t even see who the person is or what they look like because they have their picture set as their animal, their kids, a quote, etc.  Set it to you!!  People want to know who they are talking to and if it’s not set to you, it could be costing you some business.

#3 Your cover photo should not have company branding in it

Your cover picture on your profile should depict your lifestyle and NOT your network marketing company.  If you have a fan page, maybe you have your tagline in your cover photo.  A tagline is something that lets people know what you do and who you’re targeting.  For example, mine says “Teaching Home Business Owners How to Stand Out Online” so if someone isn’t trying to build an online business, they probably aren’t going to be interested in the type of content I create.  Make sense?

#4 Seek to create more curiosity than resistance

It’s funny, I saw something Ray Higdon wrote that said “A lot of people, unbeknownst to them use repellent marketing, in that they put things out that cause more resistance than curiosity, and they literally push people away from them.”

People don’t know what they don’t know and unfortunately marketing is not something I’ve seen many network marketing companies teach.  If you want to create more curiosity, I would suggest you take down any and all reference of what mlm you’re with.  That way, it gets people wondering what you’re up to.  If you’re mlm company is plastered everywhere, all people will do is google it and find something negative and you’ll never know.

#5 Start branding YOU

You are your business, not the network marketing company you’re with.  Begin by thinking about who you want to attract.  Do you want to work with stay at home moms?  People who want to lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle?  Realtors?  Struggling network marketers?

Then, begin creating free content like videos, blog posts, articles, etc. that are educational and will solve their problems.  This will begin establishing you as an authority and instead of repelling people and being looked at as a pitch person, you’ll be seen as a person of value!

#6 Start using Facebook Live

Videos are sooo much more powerful that text (800% to be exact) and facebook has already stated they are giving preference to those who use the feature.  So if you want to show up in more people’s newsfeed and dominate, start live streaming!

#7 Work on personal development daily

If I had to pinpoint when things began turning around for me, it was when I started working on personal development.  Invest your time (and possibly money) to learn the skills needed to take your business to the next level.  When I plugged into a marketing system/training platform and really immersed myself, it made ALL the difference.  You can’t expect to get better if you’re not willing to learn.

  1. When I first started reading I was “oh ya that’s a great tip.” Turns out after reading it again all the tips are awesome, each one helps build off each other.

  2. “#3 Your cover photo should not have company branding in it” Man, I see this so much and my own company still teaches this…SMH! Great post, thank you for sharing! =)

  3. That’s right, Sherri. Picking 1 social media platform makes a significant start up. Unless we have mastered one, we can’t be doing great things on the other platforms. Thank you for your tips.

  4. Great tips Sherri!

The biggest mistake I see many marketers make is building a buyer’s audience on social media on every network simultaneously. It spreads yourself too thin.

Focusing on one network at a time allows you to become the expert in that area too.
