How To Get Over Your Fear
I find that many people who don’t prospect have a fear of either getting on the phone, a fear of not knowing what to say, a fear of being rejected, and the list goes on. If that’s you, I want you to start looking at fear in a different way.
Think about the alternative. So instead of focusing your energy on what can go wrong, think about what happens if you don’t prospect. Maybe you won’t be able to have the extra money to go on that vacation you’ve been wanting to. Maybe it’s that you can’t help out your parents or take on that extra bill. For some, it’s even the reality and thought of being stuck at that job that you despise waking up and going to every morning. See, when you begin to think about what happens if you don’t do it, it might just give you the push you need.
My advice, move forward imperfectly!! I can honestly remember the first time I picked up the phone to call a prospect. It was someone I had connected with on social media and before I dialed, I sat there and took big, deep breaths because I felt like I was going to throw up. However, the more I did it, the easier it became. Yea, I’ve stumbled over my words and you might too but no one is great at anything when they first start. Just remember, you’ve got to start or you’ll never be great and you sure won’t build a successful business.
Prospecting Tips
Most people overcomplicate prospecting when it doesn’t have to be. I’ve also found that people do way too much talking and usually will end up talking themselves right out of a sale, right out of a business partner.
Stop vomiting all over your business prospects about how awesome your opportunity is and how it’s ground floor because they don’t care. If you want to increase your close rate, you’ve got to realize that it’s not about you (I know, I know, it’s a sad reality but true) it’s about them! Don’t make things weird, just simply look at it as having a conversation with a friend. The key is to start asking questions about them so that you can uncover their needs, wants, and desires.
