Scarcity Thinking

Scarcity Thinking: The Negative Impact It Can Have On Your and Your Business

Today I’m going to be sharing the negative impact scarcity thinking can have on you and your business.

If you get in the position to where you are thinking in scarcity know that it does not serve you.  It puts you in the wrong mindset and honestly, it just makes you look desperate and unprofessional.

What Do I Mean By Thinking In Scarcity?

Here’s an example, I’m in a fb group that includes different reps from my particular network marketing company and someone posted in the group that they had sent some samples to someone.  That potential customer ended up posting on fb and tagging them in it talking about how much they liked the product.  Well, another rep jumps in on that post and says something along the lines of, “Oh, I’m glad you like it, too bad you didn’t order from me.”

Number one, why would you even want to put a customer in that situation?  It’s not cool and it’s very unprofessional.

If you’ve been following me for any length of time or have watched some of my videos, you’ll probably hear me talk about other industry leaders or trainers.  If I know where I got a specific tip from, I’ll often reference that person.  I do this to give credit where credit is due. I don’t have that scarcity mindset where I’m afraid if I mention another trainer that everyone will stop following me and start following them.  The truth is, follow me as long as you’re getting value and hey, if you want to check them out too, then go ahead!  If I got some value, I’m sure you will too.

Let’s Talk Numbers

In the U.S alone there are what, like 300 million people?  There are billions of people around the world.  People aren’t lacking, so don’t try to jump in and think just because you see someone is interested in something and you didn’t get to them first that you’re just going to put them in an awkward position because you want to close a sale.

Thousands of searches are done every single day from people who are looking for an opportunity.  Every eight seconds, someone starts a home based business.  Know that it’s ok if you don’t close everybody, you’re not going to.  Even the best closers in the industry have about a 30% close rate.  Repeat that again out loud and realize you must stop thinking you’re less than if you didn’t talk to someone first or if you weren’t able to close that last sale.

The video below is from where I went live on Periscope and Facebook to talk about the negative impact of having a scarcity mentality.  I also give you some tips on what to do if you catch yourself thinking this way.

  1. I don’t have scarcity thinking; I am genuinely happy for other Consultants when they have success and I would never steal someone’s prospect. It’s so important to be professional and ethical. I appreciate the pep talk about not feeling bad when we can’t close someone. I am still learning and growing but I would appreciate tips on closing language that you feel has been very effective for you. Thanks for what you do Sherry!
