Facebook Fan Page Versus Profile
Before I get into how to get more exposure and visibility on your fan page, I want share some insight in case you’re currently using your profile to run your business.
If you’re doing everything from your main profile, I would highly recommend you set up a fan page and run your business from there. This is for a couple of reasons.
#1 It’s against Facebook’s policy to do business on your personal profile
Now I know you’re probably thinking, “Heck, everyone does” and although there are tons of people doing this, understand that it violates their terms and you do run the risk of getting your account shut down (and who wants to deal with that headache?).
#2 You can do so much more from your fan page (and it makes you look more professional in my opinion)
Understand that facebook is constantly pushing updates to make your experience better so let’s look at some of the current benefits of a fan page over your personal profile.
- You aren’t limited to the amount of people you’re connected to like you are on your profile.
- You have the “Insights Panel” which literally tells you a lot of great information and analytics about your page and audience. You can see how many people your posts have reached, the age range of those who ‘liked’ your page, your engagement rate and which posts are performing better, insights on your videos and how many people are watching them for a specific period of time (meaning how many people watch at least 7 seconds, 30 seconds, etc.) what time of day your viewers are on, and the list goes on but it’s a very powerful tool for you.
- You can use the scheduler built into your fan page to schedule out posts ahead of time without using a third party tool or app.
- You can run facebook ads to target various audiences (you can run a ‘likes ad’ to get your fan page in front of people, you can boost your posts so more people will see it in their newsfeed, you can promote upcoming events, etc)
- You can add a “Call to Action” right below your cover photo where you can have people do a number of things like: watch a video, get a free training, join your newsletter, send you a message, shop now, sign up, contact you, etc.
- You can create a “Promotional Offer” for any specials you have going on.
These are just a few of the things you have access to on a fan page that you simply don’t on a personal profile.

Hi Sherri,
I see you have a Facebook profile and Facebook fan page.. what your Facebook is used for ?
I’m confused.. Thanks for your light. J
How do you mean “what my facebook is used for?” I’m not sure I understand what you’re asking.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I think a Page combined with a blog is just insane, you are not limited to anything, have this great insights of Facebook and/or Google Analytics and really can handle it like a real business.
