Facebook’s Algorithm 

Before I talk algorithm, let’s look at some stats from zephoria.com

• over a billion and a half people are active on facebook every month  
• 936 million people log in daily
• there are 1.25 billion mobile active users.  
• 5 new profiles are created every second
• The average time spent on facebook every session is 20 minutes
• 42% of marketers report that facebook is critical to their business

I’m a firm believer that anyone can build a successful business from this platform alone given those stats.  

The issue is, with soo many users, you can imagine the competition to get in the newsfeed is brutal.

When it comes to facebook’s algorithm, when you put up a post, whatever it is (status update, picture, video, etc) they will test it out initially in the newsfeed of a few of your “friends”.  If your post doesn’t get immediate engagement (meaning likes, shares, or comments) then facebook doesn’t see it as a post that many people are interested in and therefore it’s organic reach is small and they will stop showing it in the newsfeed.

However, the more engagement you get right off the bat, the better for you because it tells facebook that it’s something people like and therefore they will put it in the newsfeed of more people. Make sense?

Now let’s talk about what you can do to increase that reach so it doesn’t get kicked to the curb.
