I’ve been getting questions from people around running a facebook likes ad and therefore I wanted to give you a few simple tips that can help you out.
Someone sent me a message recently, telling me that they have spent quite a bit of money and aren’t really getting any likes to their fan page. That’s a big problem with a lot of people who are running ads, they’re spending a lot of money and they’re not really getting many likes.

A likes ad is strictly trying to get your page in front of people who are most likely going to want to see your content and like your page. It is something that I continually have running myself to gain more exposure.
#1 It’s all about your targeting
Now if you’re spending money on a likes ad and you’re not really getting many likes, you’re going to need to go back and actually adjust who you’re targeting. Targeting is everything in regards to Facebook ads.
#2 Only target one country at a time
This is something I learned while going through some training a while back with Michelle Pescosolido (the know-it-all when it comes to any and all things about facebook ads).
My likes ad is currently running in the United States but I’ve had one running to Canada, Australia, and other countries, just not grouped into one ad. You want to target one country at a time.
#3 Pay attention to your Audience Definition: Make sure it’s not too broad or narrow
When you’re creating your ad, you can add in and actually target people who have specific interests (this is a BIG deal and very important to pay attention to). When you are going over and you’re adding those in, pay attention to the right hand side. There’s going to be something that looks like a meter (see the picture to the left).
You want to make sure that whenever you are putting those interests in that you look at the meter. Try to get the needle in the center. If you’re targeting, you know, a lot of people it’s going to be too broad, so you just want to make sure that you adjust those interests so that you’re little meter is right in the center.
Test with specific age ranges, male/female, various interests, etc.
When I’m running my own likes ad, I know that over 90% of the people who come to my fan page are females between the ages of 25-54. Therefore, I don’t target men in my advertising. Make sense?
#4 You don’t want to pay more than $1 per like
Typically the way that you’re going to know if your target audience is good or not, is if your ads are running $1 or less per like.
Now if your ad is running and it’s hitting over $1/per like, you’re going to want to go back and adjust who you’re actually targeting. Now typically I’ll run an ad for about three days just to kind of give it a little bit of time. If after three days the ad is still over a dollar per like I’ll actually cut that off, I’ll stop the ad, and then I will tweak my targeting (interests, age range, male/female, etc).
