4 Social Media Mistakes That Could Be Costing You Business
Over the past couple of years, I’ve made a lot of mistakes while building my network marketing business online. Therefore today, I wanted to share a few of those mistakes and some mlm tips and suggestions so you’re set up to create success rather than miss out.
- Not having your profile picture as a picture of yourself. Remember that people do business with people! I mention this often but I am constantly getting friend requests from people and I don’t even know who they are because they have their picture set as either their pets, a quote, or something random. People want to see who they are talking to and this simple tweak can be powerful. Just make sure you’re smiling! You want people to feel that you’re approachable and someone they want to connect with.
- Being negative. If you are posting negative stuff, always complaining, or airing your dirty laundry, STOOOOOP IT!!!! It is a turn off and it will definitely lose your potential business. If I’m constantly seeing people on my newsfeed complaining, I’ll go to their profile and unfollow them because I just don’t want that negativity in my life. If something is going on that you want to vent about, pick up the phone and call your family or friends but I’d advise against posting it online. Also know that you will attract who you are. So if you’re being negative, you’ll attract negative people so keep that in mind.
- Adding people to groups and inviting them to online events without reaching out to them. I honestly can’t tell you how many times this has happened to me and I hear others complaining about this same thing. So, if you are doing this, a simple tip is to reach out to that person via messenger and tell them you’ve invited them (same goes if you’re adding them to your group). It makes it more personable and you’ll get a more positive response.
- Following people and once they follow back, dumping them. I first noticed this on my Instagram account. Generally, when someone follows me on social media sites like IG and Twitter, I’ll follow them back. However, I kept noticing that once I would follow some people, they would almost immediately unfollow me. I’m sure you’ve noticed some people who have a ton of followers but they are hardly following anyone themselves. They do this by following a ton of people just to get those same people to follow them. Once that happens, they go back and unfollow. If you’re wanting to become someone people know, like, and trust, don’t do this! It’s absolutely annoying and it just shows that they are only out to see what someone can do for them. My advice, follow people that you like and get value from but don’t try and gain followers in an underhanded way.

Great tips and very true. I’ve noticed that more on Twitter than Instagram with the unfollowing right away.
Thanks Rhonda. Interesting you see it more on Twitter, I guess I haven’t paid a ton of attention on there.
There are so many negative people in social media. And now what out for all the politics
You’re right which is why I make sure of who I’m connecting with on there.
Wow…I learned a lot of stuff here, especially about those who follow you and once you follow them, they unfollow you back.
What I’ve seen on Twitter is some who once you follow them, they will unfollow and then block you.

This is so TRUE especially the one about adding others to group you haven’t connected with. I think I get added everyday! More people NEED to read this post, awesome share!!!
Thank you Lynette and yes, I don’t think people see anything wrong with it but there are better ways of going about it for sure.
I have also noticed the people who don’t follow back or comment to get your attention and once you follow, don’t follow back!! Thanks Sherri, great post 😊
Thank you Erin!
Wow, I didn’t know people were doing the mistake #4. This is so weird… It’s all about reciprocity, and people gotta know that!
