Have you had issues being consistent in your business? Ever think, “If I only had more time I could be successful.” Always find things coming up which causes you to continue pushing your business to the back burner? I’ve seen it time and time again and honestly, they’re all excuses. I was listening to a Ray Higdon podcast the other day when the topic came up about time and I had an ah-ha moment for.
If you sit and think that you can build your business if you only had more time, you’re wrong. See, it’s not a lack of time that’s the issue, it how you utilize that time! So, if you can’t learn how to be more more consistent part-time, you’re just not going to build it full-time either. I know that’s probably not what you want to hear but I’m all about setting the right expectations these days.
6 Keys to Being Consistent:
If you want to learn how to be more consistent in your business, these tips should help.
- Vision. Having a vision in place of WHO you want to become can really help pull you through the bad days. This is different from your “Why” which is often more external. Your vision is more internal. How do you want people to talk about you? Who do you want to become as a person? Having a vision pulls you to do those positive actions.
- Daily Routine. Having a daily routine will also help keep you on track. Click Here to read my previous blog if you need some examples and ideas on this.
- Alternative. Now this is a fear based tactic and this won’t keep you consistent for the long-term but it can definitely help get you going. When you think about the Alternative, meaning what happens if you don’t build this business? More than likely, you’ll stay in the exact same place you are now. When you realize this, it can push you into action.
- 30 Day Goals. At the beginning of each month, write down 3-4 goals you want to accomplish. Don’t write out unrealistic or unattainable goals either. For instance, when I first started blogging, I didn’t write a goal to pump out a new blog post every day of the month. Instead, I decided to produce three blogs a week (M, W, F) which is much easier to manage, especially when you’re just starting out. Attainable goals are small, simple, positive actions over a period of time. Also, when you set smaller goals and then reach them, it helps you feel accomplished and keeps you on track.
- The Seinfeld Method. I’ve heard this method talked about twice and I love it! This came from the story of someone asking Jerry Seinfeld what tips he had for a young comic. He told them if they wanted to create better jokes to write jokes everyday, get a calendar and everyday that you do, put an X on that day. The goal is to NOT break the chain. This is really a visual way to show that you’re staying in action. The more you do something, the better you’ll become. Now, when it comes to building your business, know that it’s the income producing activities that’s going to serve you. If you’re constantly just training and not implementing, you’re going to waste your time. Do you feel that the young comic would get better by just reading jokes everyday or actually writing jokes? The later of course!
- Push Through. There will come a time where you will become frustrated, you’ll want to quit, you’ll wonder if it’s all worth it. My advice…. push through it and do it anyways! I’ve heard over and over that you’re biggest break through usually comes after your biggest break down.

Hi Sherri,
Makes perfect sense, they all go together.
I do have my DMO and everything that I want to do for the day is on my calendar and that is what keeps me on track day after day.
Thanks for sharing!
Emi
Thank you Emi!
I love seeing what others are doing to be consistent. It helps me with my own DMO. Thanks.
You’re welcome Cynthia!
Thank you for these great tips; I guess my posts are viewed as “spammy” because They don’t get likes or comments except for others in our biz. I am going to try adding value to my posts.
You’re welcome Debbie! I think one of the biggest challenges in building an online business is learning to lead with value instead of pitching. I was spammy for a long time myself so it’s all about learning and growing. You are on the right track. I appreciate your feedback and look forward to hearing how your business goes once you make this one tweak.
