How to Generate Leads and Attract People to You

Have you been actively posting on Facebook and other social media sites and wondering why you aren’t generating leads and getting results?  The problem most likely is a reflection of your marketing and how you’re coming across to other people.  I’m sure you’re doing what you were taught…. Go out there, post as much as you can, talk to as many people as you can and if you do it enough, some will stick.  I get it, ya know what, over a year ago I really didn’t know squat about the proper way to market online and I’m going to show you exactly what I mean as I put my own marketing strategy (a year ago and now) on the chopping block.  

Here’s the thing, I’m not perfect and I don’t claim to be.  I’m usually the one who will tell you that if you want to know what NOT to do in this business, ask me, because chances are I’ve done it the wrong way.  However, my strength is that I’m not afraid to try, I’m not afraid to fail, and I’m darn sure not afraid to invest in myself, learn from those who are getting results, implement that into my business, and then share with others what’s working.  So, are you wanting to know how to generate leads and attract people to you? 

What NOT to Do:

  • Don’t have your company name all over the place.
  • Don’t be a Spammer!
  • Don’t be inconsistent.   
  • Don’t be negative!!  If you’re always complaining, guess what type of person you’re going to attract?? You’re right, other negative people and nobody likes a Debbie Downer or Negative Nancy.
  • Don’t hop around from company to company every few months.  You won’t attract leaders this way.

I’ll give you an example, I’m with a network marketing company that offers skincare so we’re going to dive into how I used to market.    

how to generate leadsAs you can see, this is a post I did in November of last year and is a prime example of what NOT to do!  I didn’t add any value, I slapped my link in there, and the entire post screams, “SPAMMY!”

Another example of what NOT to do!  Although I was sharing a story (which is a good thing), I went at it the wrong way.  I was literally just slapping my company name out there, TWO different links to my website, and I didn’t add any value.  If I were to see that post in my newsfeed right now, I would think, “Spammer” and continue scrolling.  

 

Now, I did grow my business through active prospecting, but I did not generate a single lead back when I marketing this way on social media.  However, after getting better at attraction marketing and really learning, I now generate leads every month.  As a matter of fact, I gained a new customer just last night that reached out to me.

How to Generate Leads and Attract People to you:

  • Peak Curiosity.  You can do this again by not having your links posted.  It forces them to reach out to you instead.
  • Be Consistent.  If you wanted to lose weight, you wouldn’t go to the gym once or twice a week if you wanted results, the same holds true for your business.  Click Here for 6 Keys to Being Consistent.
  • Be positive, funny, inspiring, etc in your posts.  People love following others who uplift and inspire them.
  • The absolute best way to attract people to you is simple: ADD VALUE!  Give your followers useful and valuable information.
  • Have a Call to Action in your posts.  Don’t just assume people know what you want them to do.  By having a call to action, it will help to increase engagement.

This post is much better as I actually gave people valuable information they probably weren’t aware of.  I thought it was humorous as I can’t say the first line without singing the theme song (I bet you couldn’t either).  I peaked curiosity by not mentioning my company name or having any links to a sales page.

This is another post I did not too long ago that adds value without being spammy.  I was informative, I shared a story (I also included a before/after picture from someone who uses the products I market), and I had a call to action at the end. I had more than one person reach out to me for more information after this post.  Again, I did not mention my company nor have a link to a sales page which forces anyone interested to reach out to me instead.

My hopes are that you now know what to do to start generating leads and attracting people to you. Although I have always been passionate about what I do, my previous way of marketing made me appear spammy and that I only cared about what someone could do for me when that wasn’t the case.  I know you’re serious about your business because you’re on here reading this blog and investing your time to become better.  Now, you just need to implement what you learned.

  1. This is great information, Sherri! I used to make a lot of these mistakes myself, and unfortunately there just aren’t a lot of people that 1: know this type of marketing is not effective, and 2: teach other marketers a better way. Thank you for adding value to our industry 🙂
