What Is Affiliate Marketing

What Is Affiliate Marketing?

Have you been curious what affiliate marketing is?  Prior to this summer, I had no idea myself but what I found is that it’s pretty huge in the online arena.  When I decided to start blogging, I had no idea how or what to do to get one setup so I bought a course that walked me step by step through the process.  I was also told that I could be an affiliate of that same course after I purchased it and I was like, “Awesome, what does that mean?”  Keep in mind that affiliate marketing and network marketing are not the same.

What Is Affiliate Marketing

Simply put, affiliate marketing is where you can earn a commission on products that you sell that were created by someone else.  Just like the course I purchased to set up my own blog, I could recommend that course to others and the woman who created it, would pay me a percentage of that sale.  Make sense?  Generally these are one time sales but there are some that pay you a residual income.

There are a massive number of products that you can be an affiliate of.  Some of them will not allow you to be unless you have purchased the course or product yourself, while others you can sign up without ever having made a purchase.

What Is Network Marketing

Network Marketing is different in that you are paid on multiple levels.  So if you have a team under you and they make sales, then you get a percentage of that.  That’s not the case with affiliate marketing where you only get paid on the sales you personally make.

In network marketing, the work actually begins after the sale is made. The focus is now on the person who joined you, as you start to build them up as a leader.  Network marketing is a great way to earn residual income as well.  So, you get someone on as a customer or business partner and you can get paid multiple times as they continue to buy product.

Why Affiliate Marketing?

The one thing I found to be beneficial about affiliate marketing is that when you’re building relationships with others and prospecting, there are going to be about 90% of people who say no to joining your primary network marketing company.  However, by being an affiliate of some great products or communities, you’re able to still be a resource for that person and help them while building your primary network marketing company!

Affiliate Marketing Tips

I would highly recommend you do some research and find some products that you truly believe in.  Remember that when you’re out there marketing them, you’re putting your name on it.  Although I am affiliated with quite a few, I don’t push a large amount of them.  For me, I recommend those that I’ve personally gained value from, that I use myself, or from leaders in the industry that I follow and know others can benefit from too.  I will never (and I don’t recommend you do it either) market products or anything else just to try and make a sale.

Sherri, this was a great post. Most people do not know the difference between affiliate marketing and network marketing. I like affiliate marketing better than I do network marketing.
