I’ve found that the more people I talk to, the more I realize that prospecting seems to be the main struggle that most home business owners face.
To carry on with my two previous blog posts, today I’m sharing 5 more mlm prospecting tips for social media.

#1 Seek to serve, not to sell
When I first came into the industry and for years after, I was taught to go out there and prospect the wrong way. Â The worst thing you can do is make it about yourself or make people feel that all you’re after is a signup. Â When you switch your mindset and instead focus on how you can serve and help other people, you’ll be surprised at how much more receptive people are to not only what you have to offer but in the information they’ll give you about themselves and their needs.Â
#2 Use a tool or resource if someone is open to your opportunity
If someone is open to checking out what you have to offer, never be the one to explain it to them. Â Instead, use a tool or resource that does it for you. Â This could be a video, conference call, powerpoint, meeting, etc. By doing this, it creates more duplication and has the prospect thinking they too can do it. Â
#3 Have realistic expectations when prospecting
Don’t get discouraged if you talk to 10 people and they say no or ignore you. Â All too often people have the mindset that everyone they talk to should join and that’s just setting yourself for failure right out of the gate. Â Instead, understand and be ok with it not being a fit for everyone.Â
#4 Clean up your profile
Yes, this is a big one when it comes to prospecting on social media. Â When you are sending messages to people, understand that most will probably go to your profile and check you out. Â If you have a bunch of pitchy posts, it will likely turn them off!! Â Think entertain, educate, inspire when it comes to your newsfeed. Â
#5 If someone is happy with their current company, leave them alone
Don’t try and flip people who are happy with the company they are currently with. Â Ask them questions, if they are looking for another mlm or opportunity, they’ll let you know and if that’s the case, by all means see if they are open to yours. Â However, if they are happy, move on because it’s annoying and only makes you look bad.Â

No one likes pitchy posts. They create resistance to our product and opportunity.

Thanks Theresa and you’re so welcome!
great post #3 is so big! have realistic expectations too often rejection will quickly get you to stop prospecting the way you should
Thanks Collin and yes, having the right expectations are so important. 🙂
“If someone is happy with their current company, leave them alone”
Yup. And if there comes a day when they aren’t, you want to be remembered as helpful, not pushy
That’s so true Larry!! Such a great point. 🙂
Awesome tips on prospecting using social media. I agree the minute you start explaining or trying to explain the more questions they might ask you or easily yo put them off. Best is to use tools you’ve been provided for the first place. Great value Sherri!
Thanks Gordon and you’re exactly right.
This is like the mlm prospecting bible lol. Seriously good stuff. Everything you mentioned in this post about taking the focus off of you and making it all about your prospect to using third party tools to explain were on the money. Most network marketers think it’s all about them and their company when its not and like you said you have to be ok with some people saying no to your business.
Cleaning up that social media profile is another great tip. I have several friends across various social media platforms that when you look at their profile and just a pitch fest. It’s a real big turn off. But they don’t know any better because that’s how they were taught.
Thanks for putting this awesome training together Sherri!
So glad you liked the value Dereco! Appreciate your comment. 🙂
Love these tips Sherri! Every single one of them is so spot on for social media prospecting! If someone is happy with their company, never convince them to join yours – this is something that makes our industry look bad.. Always be a professional!
Thanks Jelena and yes, that’s a big one!
Great post Sherri!
Seek to serve not to sell was the big takeaway for me.
The other day I was on a prospecting call and all I did was solve the prospects problem and the person made the decision to buy – no selling involved on my end 🙂
Dr. Lisa
Thanks Dr. Lisa and yes, it works so much better.
