Frustrated because your Home Based Business isn’t growing as quickly as you had hoped? Well today, maybe I can shed some light on three mistakes I see people make almost on a daily basis. Any of these can have a pretty big impact on your bottom line. I’ll also give you some pointers on what you can do to start seeing more leads and growth. Â Â
3 Mistakes Home Based Business Owners Make:
1) The biggest mistake I see people make is being a perfectionist. Â If you are waiting for something to be perfect before you do it, chances are you’ll be waiting a long time. Â You are your own worst critic and therefore perfect will never exist. Â When I first created my blog, I got the main things up and going so I could just start producing content. Â I knew everything wasn’t the exact way I wanted it, but I just wanted it UP!! Â I’ve gone back on many occasions and made small tweaks and will continue to do that. Â
It’s the old saying, “If we wait until we’re ready, we’ll be waiting for the rest of our lives.” Â It’s true, so instead strive for progress. Â Whatever you’re doing just get it out there! You won’t ever be able to help others or grow your business by striving for something to look perfect. Â It’s the message that matters!
2) Not being consistent. Â This one seems like a no-brainer but I’ve seen it a hundred times. Â You must realize that if you aren’t being consistent, there is absolutely no way your business is going to grow. Â It’s no different than working out. Â If you only go to the gym one or two days a week, it’s going to take you a long time to lose weight. Â I’m fully aware that the reason I still have a big badonkadonk (aka: a large back-side) is because I’m not consistent with the way I exercise and eat so obviously I don’t expect any real results. Â Â
When it comes to social media, I suggest posting daily! Â If you need ideas on what to post, check out the picture below. Â Just be sure you are adding VALUE and not throwing your links out there by being spammy. Â Take people on a journey with you!
3) Not being a student. Â This is another mistake I see a lot of people make. Â They aren’t plugging into training available to them, they aren’t learning how to master certain skills, they simply aren’t educating themselves on ways to improve their business. Â I suggest spending 30 minutes a day on your education. Â This could be listening to a podcast, a webinar, reading a blog, reading a few chapters in a book, etc. Â
Don’t try to master everything at once. Â I would pick 1-2 areas that you want to get better at and go from there. Â That could be blogging, Facebook Marketing, Instagram, LinkedIn, Paid Ads, Video Marketing, or SEO (just to name a few). Â
I would also recommend joining a community of other like-minded people who are going to inspire you and that you can gain value from. Â Click Here to Learn More about the one I recommend. Â

Hi Sherri,
Being a perfectionist is a big one, you can see so
many talented people who are not willing to share their creations posts content…
Just because they think they are not perfect.
Great value, thank you for sharing!
You’re welcome and I agree with you Emi!
Great post Sherri! For me in the beginning was being a perfectionist. I had to have everything in place first before taking the first step. What I realized was when I was getting ready to get ready I was NEVER READY!
Dr. Lisa
Thank you Dr. Lisa! LOL, yes! That definitely can happen when we’re always in “prep” mode.
Being persistent and consistent. I had to learn how to do both.
I was the same Mark. Thank you for commenting.
I suffered from perfectionism and lack of consistency the most. Still have to wor on that one tho! Great post!
Thank you April!
Being consistent is the one that I was having trouble with. You have to do it everday
I agree Christa, daily is key.
Great post! My biggest issue was not being consistent. I am getting so much better!
That’s awesome Marlie!!
Great post Sherri. I struggle with perfectionism, but I can now say I am a recovering perfectionist lol.
Thanks Matthew! LOL at you being a “recovering perfectionist.”
Great post Sherri! Being consistent has always been my biggest challenge! I’m thankful for this tip
Thank you Linh! It was for me too for a long time but I just got to a point where no matter what, I’ve done something every single day for months now. 🙂
It’s like you read my mind! All three of these applied to me, the first two in particular. I’m a bit of a perfectionist and I spent so much time getting things right, that by the time I was ready to get it out there or approach a prospect, the time had passed.
This post will definitely make me more mindful of my consistency now too.
Glad you liked it Kay!
