Perfectionist

Why Being A Perfectionist Is Costing You Business

Has being a perfectionist kept you from moving forward in certain areas of your business?

If you want to create success in your business, or impact lives, it’s not going to happen near as fast unless you learn to shift your mindset and stop seeking perfect conditions.

In the video I share with you why being a perfectionist is costing you business.

Why being a perfectionist can hurt your business is because you are always going to be your own worst critic and nothing is ever going to be ‘just right’ for any of us.  If you’ve thought about shooting videos but you’re so worried about the perfect lighting, the perfect script, what you’re going to wear, etc. these are all going to keep you out of action and focused on the wrong thing.

You must understand that it’s not about you, it’s about the message you are sharing that can impact lives!

I personally shoot videos three times a week (sometimes four) live on Periscope or Facebook.  Afterwards, I’ll go back and edit them to create future blog posts.  I’ll be the first to tell you that I have horrible grammar!  My grammar sometimes, I laugh when I’m editing videos because I’m like ahhhhhh!  There have been times that I did not even want to re-post them because I thought “people are going to think I’m an idiot” but I post it anyways because it’s about the message that I wanted to share.

I did a video a while back where my grammar was horrendous but I had a lot of people reaching out to me afterwards, talking about how it was very motivating.  I had people who were sharing it with their teams and so know that if you are constantly trying to get it perfect, you never will.

It’s going to cost you business because there are a lot of people out there (like me) who are sharing the wealth, adding value, and they are moving forward imperfectly!

Whether you are blogging, creating videos, created your first profile on a social media site, know that you can always go back and make changes later.  I’ve done this with my website.  I got the meat up and content going and then went back and made little tweaks here and there.

Something to remember is that you will be bad before you’re good, good before you’re great, and great before you’re exceptional.  If you mess up, that’s okay because we’re only human!

  1. Love the post and it is true being a perfectionist will hold you back. Sometimes I think people just say their a perfectionist due to the story they tell themselves, so they will never get started.
People generally just care about the message.

  2. This is so very true…. I’m not a perfectionist but can be very detailed at times…. great post Sherri as always…. thanks for always giving such great value

  3. Awesome post Sherri!

Love your authenticity and energy! It what really makes you stand out. Be real. Be yourself. Thanks for the reminder

  4. Thanks for this post. I struggle with this somewhat. I like things to be perfect but they never are. That’s one reason I have avoided doing videos. I don’t look perfect. Sigh. Time to re-evaluate.

    1. I get it! I am super country and not a fan of my accent but others get a kick out of it so it’s all good. 🙂

  5. Perfection kills momentum in business.

I know because I used to do this…

It put me in the getting ready to get ready….and when you get ready to get ready you’ll never be ready

    1. Thank Jean-Serge! Many do and my hope is that we remember why we’re doing this in the first place.

  6. Appreciating the time and energy you put into your site and in depth information you offer. It’s good to come across a blog every once in a while that isn’t the same old rehashed information. Wonderful read! I’ve bookmarked your site and I’m including your RSS feeds to my Google account.
