MLM Prospecting: What to Say

Have you wanted to reach out to someone about what you’re offering but haven’t because you weren’t sure what to say?  When it comes to prospecting in Network Marketing, this is very common and today, I’m going to give you some great language you can use when reaching out to both warm and cold market.

MLM Prospecting Tips:

  • Keep in mind that in today’s time, Plan A simply isn’t working for most people.  There are more people struggling to make ends meet than ever.  Don’t be selfish with your opportunity because you never know who may really need it.
  • Don’t mention your company name.  The point is to create more curiosity than resistance.

Also, know that there are different strategies when it comes to prospecting offline, online, warm market, and cold market. I’ll give you some initial language for each.

3 Mistakes Most People Make When Prospecting:

  1. Being addicted to the outcome.  If you want to help others and create success, you cannot get upset when you get rejected.  Keep in mind that the average closing rate for a beginner is 5% and the average in general is about 10% so you will face rejection and that is ok!
  2. Say too much or too little.  If you’ve read my previous blog post, you know the importance I stress on using your company tools.  All too often people will do the proverbial vomit and talk their way right out of a ‘would-be’ business partner.  You need to do less talking and more listening.
  3. Being too Salesy.  Don’t be a spammer.  Just keep your cool and remember you are talking to another person and if you’re too weird or salesy, it’s a turn off.

MLM Prospecting Scripts:

These are a few things you can say when reaching out to your prospects.

Warm Market:  I think it was Eric Worre who said,

“You’re either punished or rewarded for the life you lead before Network Marketing.”

So keep that in mind and don’t get discouraged if you see someone who blew it out of the water and seemed to have instant success.  More than likely, they had a very receptive and large warm market.

I learned from Ray Higdon that if you’re someone who is well respected and seen as a leader, you’re considered Abnormal and will want to lead with the opportunity.

Sample Script:  “Hey Suzzy, this may or may not be a fit for you but I wanted to see if you were open to exploring something I’m doing on the side to make some extra money?”

OR “Hey Suzzy, I’ve got something I think you’re really going to want to take a look at.  How soon will you have about 15 minutes to talk?”

OR “Hey, I’ve started a business, I think you may be a fit for it, but I’m not sure.  If you’re at all open, I can show it to you and if you like it…Great.  If not, no big deal.”

Now, if you’re someone who isn’t seen as successful, you’re considered Typical and will want to lead with the product.

Sample Script: “Hey Becky, I’m doing this thing and I know the business isn’t for you, but I think you’d like the product.”  This will get some thinking about the business and wonder “Well, why isn’t the business for me?”

Cold Market:  I love Cold Market Prospecting because there is an endless supply and if you get rejected, it doesn’t bother you as much. Am I right? The key here is to be busy and have a BIC (break in communication).

Sample Script: (offline and Ray Higdon’s favorite) “Hey, I’ve got to hop on a call, but just curious – would you be at all open to a side project if it didn’t interfere with what you’re currently doing?”  Remember to always use “open” and not “interested.”

If they say “Yes”, just reply, “Great!  Let me grab your information.  Like I said, I’ve got to hop on a call but I’ll get back with you.  How soon will you have about 15 minutes to chat?”

If they ask “What is it?” (that never happens, right?) simply say, “Absolutely, I’m more than happy to share that with you but I’ve got to hop on this call.  Let me grab your information and I promise I’ll follow up and share it with you.”

Online MLM Prospecting on Social Media:

Sample Script:  “Hey Suzzy, I was scrolling through facebook when your post popped up in my newsfeed and I checked out your profile and loved (give them a genuine compliment).  Listen, I don’t reach out to everyone but I’m an independent recruiter for a (skincare, health and wellness, travel company) based out of _________ and we’re expanding in your area.  This may or may not be a fit for you, but I’d love to (meet with you, speak with you) and see if you’re open to making some extra money.  If you’re not, maybe you know someone who is.”
