Mindset Tips & Why You Must Be OK With Repelling Some People

Mindset Tips: Why You Must Be OK With Repelling Some People

Have you ever found yourself thinking, “I don’t want to post anything business-related because I don’t want to repel anyone or turn anybody off”?

In essence, you’re afraid that if you put up something on social media, it will just repel people?  Can you relate?

This is something that at one point I did struggle with but quickly got over and that’s exactly why I wanted to share some mindset tips with you.  Specifically, why you must be OK with repelling some people.

Mindset Tips: Why You Must Be OK With Repelling Some People

You have to understand that you are not going to be everything to everyone.

It does not matter how perfect you are, there’s always going to be someone who doesn’t agree with what you’re doing. There will always be someone who doesn’t like what you’re doing and you can’t let that stop you.

The reality is: it’s my page, it’s my profile, and I will post what I want to post if I feel that it’s going to be valuable to my target audience.

I’m not talking about just putting up super pitchy posts, like “join my team” and “my products are so awesome and you need to try it” because that isn’t marketing, it’s downright annoying and ineffective (if you’re doing this, don’t fret, I did it to for years before I realized that it was more “repellant marketing” than actual marketing).

But…. if what I’m posting is valuable to those I’m wanting to attract and serve, if someone who isn’t in my target market doesn’t like it, then they can just not follow me, you know what I mean? They can unfriend me and stop listening to what I’m saying.  Your goal shouldn’t be to attract everyone and if it is, you’re being too broad.

Stop focusing on who you are going to repel and start focusing on attracting your tribe. Just be yourself. Be a person who’s coming from a place of service and sharing things that are going to be valuable to those you’re trying to attract. That’s what it’s all about.

Accept the fact that other people’s opinion of what you shouldn’t do isn’t going to pay your bills. It’s not going to help you achieve your goals. So let’s stop focusing on that stuff and start focusing on what you’re going to do—something that will lead you closer to your goals. Focus on yourself and focus on those people you’re trying to attract.

To be honest, I want to repel some people.  I want to repel those who are negative, have a scarcity mindset, don’t see the importance of investing in themselves, excuse makers and those who aren’t “go-getters”.  I’m also going to take a wild guess that those qualities aren’t ones that you want to attract either so be ok with repelling those type of people and when you are, the business gets more fun because you’re actually working with people you love!

  1. Thanks Sherri!
That was so real and true. I am actually going through that phase where I worry about repelling some people. Thank you for sharing such encouraging stuff. The fact that those people’s opinion of what I shouldn’t do isn’t going to pay your bills I am working on mindset to change that 1

  2. This Is Soooo True!! How does the song go? “It’s My Page, & I Can Post What I Want To! Post What I Want To!!” (I changed the words..lol) But, you’re right, it’s your JOB to attract the right people, that are right for you and REPEL the rest.
