How to Come up With Content Ideas For Your Marketing

How To Come Up With Content Ideas For Your Marketing

Do you ever get stuck when it comes to figuring out what you’re going to be talking about on a daily basis in regards to your content?

This is a question that was recently asked to me and it’s definitely something that I struggled with when first starting out.

So today, I’ll be giving you some tips on how to come up with content ideas for your marketing and also how to turn those who engage into actual true leads.

How To Come Up With Content Ideas For Your Marketing

When it comes to creating content, you must think about the pains, problems and questions of those that you’re trying to attract.

So the easiest way to come up with content ideas, especially in the beginning, is to go to your website (if you’re with a network marketing company/mlm) and log in to the back office and start looking at the training there.

You can also go through various trainings from courses, webinars, calls, podcasts, company or generic events, etc. take notes and simply share some of the tips that you’re learning.

One of my current clients that I mentor promotes hair care products and so let’s dive into some examples…

1. Go to Google and type in “haircare forums” and a lot of forums will come up on your screen.

2. Look at the questions being asked and turn those questions into pieces of content. (If you don’t know the answer, get resourceful and do some research)

3. Start also listening when talking to prospects, your customers and your teammates because a lot of times I’ll turn a question that was asked into a piece of content (just as I did for this blog post and training video).

So here are some of the haircare content ideas I came up with:

(also note that even if you aren’t in this industry, start learning how to spin ideas from these examples into your own content for your niche)

1. Why oils?

What I found was that people apparently spend a ton of money on high-end shampoos and treatment which generally don’t help at all. So inform people why oils are important to put in their hair.

2. Why you shouldn’t wash your hair daily?

I have always been told that you should wash your hair every single day. But apparently, in the hair world that’s not a good thing. So, why should you not wash your hair daily? And if you’re not washing it daily, how often should you wash it to maintain healthy hair?

3. The three biggest myths for healthy hair.

4. Simple tips to determine if you have healthy hair.

5. How do you know if you need to do something with that mop on your head?

6. Top 5 hacks for frizzy, damaged hair.

A lot of times I will use a straightener because I’ve just got major frizz going on, on the side.

7. What’s the proper way to wash your hair?

I have heard that when you’re using shampoo, you want to put the shampoo up top and scrub it. However, when when you use conditioner, you want to put the condition on the ends of your hair, so you don’t necessarily want the conditioner on the top. I have no idea if it’s true or not. Maybe you can do a piece of content for this.

8. How to use dry shampoo?

I heard lots about dry shampoo but I have no idea about how to use it so doing some type of tutorial showing people would be helpful.

9. The real root of greasy hair and what you can do about it?

So, knowing nothing about the haircare industry, I’ve just come up with quite a few content ideas by just going to her mlm website and spending less than 15 minutes on it.  Well, that and then my own questions I have regarding my hair.

Now, here’s how to turn engagement into actual leads

1. Reach out and strike up a conversation.

Here’s my big recommendation: If people are engaging in your content you can reach out and strike up a conversation. Don’t go into it with an agenda; just go into the conversation to make a friend. Then, you can start asking questions to see if you can determine a need that your product, service, or opportunity could be a solution for.

2. When talking about a product, tell people what the product does and not what it is.

This is something I learned from Ray Higdon and it was a game changer.  So, instead of you going and putting up a post talking about how great this product is, make sure that you’re talking about the benefits of the product. Talk about what it does, not what it is. Yes, it might be just a dry shampoo, but what are the benefits? Does it give you massive volume without weighing your hair down and causing it to look greasy?

In addition, what makes your product better than others on the market that are similar?  Make sense?

3. Have a strong call-to-action.

This is a mistake I see a lot of marketers making. Don’t assume that your prospects know what you want them to do next. So, have a strong call-to-action at the end of your video or whatever content you’re putting up.

I see a lot of people are missing that call-to-action and wonder why they’re not generating leads. Then, when I take a look on their page, they’re not giving anybody a way to dive deeper.

So, going back to the “dry shampoo” example…. If you’re talking about the benefits of a dry shampoo, at the end of your video or post, you can have a call-to-action that might say, “If you want to know what my favorite dry shampoo is and what I use to stay looking beautiful and have healthy hair, just drop ‘more info’ into the comments and I’ll be happy to reach out to you.”  See, easy peasy lemon squeezy! 🙂

  1. Excellent post! Content is literally surrounding us and we just have to open out eyes. Starting out I was lost and Ray’s 3 Minute Expert was an eye opener on content creation for me! Great nuggets, thanks for sharing!

  2. Awesome tips on getting content ideas, I’ve been sharing my notes and some of the things I’ve learned for a while and it works great for finding ideas. 🙂 Haven’t really been using forums as much, so I’ve gotta look into that as well.

One of the things I’ve been using for this myself is using movies, tv series and the like for ideas. And then wrapping that story around the lesson I want to teach.

  3. Thanks Sherri for sharing this. I love using forums. I used this method to not only get content for some of the videos and training I created; I also used it to get leads. Also, I like the tip about looking in the back office of your company for different tips and tricks. Works wonders.
