4 Must Haves for Creating Success in Your Home Based Business

You start a business, stay at it a while and then maybe you’re not pushing forward and creating momentum as quickly as you’d hoped you would.

Building a successful business does take time but if you know some secrets, you can definitely propel yourself forward faster than others.

Today, I’m going to share four must haves for creating success in your home based business along with two tips for personal development.

4 Must Haves for Creating Success in Your Home Based Business

Tip #1—Passion

The very first thing you need when you want to build success is passion.

Too many people hate what they do for a living. This is a feeling I know well!

Back when I was in Corporate America, I used to punch a time-clock and I was bouncing around from entry-level position to entry-level position. Truth be told, I was miserable.

Does this song and dance sound familiar?

This is so important when you’re in a home-based business industry. If you’re promoting a product that you aren’t passionate about, other people will sense it.  It’s then going to be challenging for you to create, thrive, and gain momentum if you don’t believe truly believe in what you’re promoting.

That’s why you should find something that you love, and go for it.

Of course you’re not going to love everything about building a business. When I first started out in the industry, there were a lot of aspects that I didn’t enjoy.

You could see it. But… one of the things that I love to do is to outsource. hahaha

When it comes to my business and what I’m doing, I’m now sticking to my talents.  And the things that I don’t like doing in my business, like all those mumbo-jumbo, time-sucking activities, I outsource them.  I find people with that skill, and I hire them.

By doing so, it takes a lot of stress off of me and allows me to focus my efforts on things that can really move me forward.  If you feel the same, you can check out my free training all around how to outsource for as little as $2-$5 per hour here.

Tip #2—Burning Desire

This is what drives your vision, and keeps you going and pushes you through the hard times.

For me, it was a desire to not punch a time-clock and for you it could be something totally different.

When I had my daughter, I knew that I didn’t bring her into the world to see her for two or three hours a day and because of that, I had a driving force to get me through the more difficult times of starting a business.

When I say that there were difficult times—I mean it. In the beginning, I didn’t know what I was doing and people ran for me, ignored me, and I wasn’t making money, let along generating any leads.

But, what I did have, was a burning desire to not settle.

For a moment, I was looking at two options (that weren’t appealing!)

1. Stay at home and fully depend on someone else. (not my jam)

OR…

2. Go back to the corporate world.

Neither would “do it” for me. You see, I wanted to have my cake—and I wanted to eat it too.

I wanted to be a stay-at-home mom, all while creating a life that I wanted to live as I made money doing it.

Have a burning desire and a vision of who you want to become… That’s what it it will take to get you through the inevitable crap that you’re going to face as an entrepreneur.

Tip #3—Skin in the Game

It may not be pleasant, and I’ll probably ruffle some feathers in the process (I’m ok with that though).

Here’s the thing:

There’s so many entrepreneurs who want to build a business for free.

Is it doable?  Sure…. I mean if you want it to take way longer but understand also that free is more expensive.

I remember hearing Ray Higdon say that sure… you can cut your yard for free with a pair of scissors but you can also invest in a lawm mower and get it done in a fraction of the time.  Which would you choose?

Stop looking at everything as a cost, and begin to see things as investment (in yourself, your business, and your future).

I also know that most people don’t take things near as serious if they aren’t actually investing and have no skin in the game. Just start asking yourself if the cost of what you’re investing in is worth the outcome you’ll get.

If the answer is No, then don’t buy it and vice versa.

Tip #4—Ramping up Your Contribution

You have to develop content that’s going to solve other people’s problems.

Stop pitching your links everywhere and running an infomercial on your social media channels.

Do you know why “Join my team! My opportunities are the best” isn’t working?

Everyone has seen that line, from every company and rep who thinks their products are the best.

Instead, give them something useful instead.  Solve their problems, their pains, and become a person that others want to do business with and you’ll make a lot more money in the process.

2 Types of Personal Development

As an entrepreneur, you should also keep up with personal development every single day. I wanted to quickly share two things you can do to create more valuable content and become someone of value:

  1. Increase Your Skill Set

Increase your skill set for the business side of things.

Learn more on prospecting and marketing, new systems, social media, branding, and strategies.

This also includes your mindset as well. If you’re mindset isn’t healthy, you’re either going to stagnate or you’re going to close shop.

  1. Be Niche Specific

Let’s say you’re in skincare. Learn various skincare tips and cool hacks. When you do this, you’ll be able to create more content with a greater ease. Plus you’ll attract your target market, who has skin issues.

If you’re in health and wellness, start learning more on that specific topic and go teach about it, etc.

If you’re struggling with daily content creation, ask yourself if you’re working on personal development.

Creating content is easy for me, because it comes from the books I read, the YouTube channels I watch, and podcasts that I listen to, courses I consume, events I go to, etc.

Was this helpful?  Is there anyone else you know that is struggling in this area and could use some pointers too, share this with them so they too can increase their sales. I promise, they’ll thank you for it.

  1. It’s always tempting to get things which are free but paying a little bit will make things even be more convenient. We get more tools to enjoy to help simplify our work –and often they’re not given in free stuff.

  2. It cracks me up when I come across people who think they can just make money without investing anything. It takes money to make money. And once you start investing in yourself you can turn around and teach what you are learning which falls right in place with what you said about putting more value into the marketplace.

Great training Sherri, thanks for the share!

  3. Hi Sherri,
I believe Jelena was correct, “We get more tools to enjoy to help simplify our work….” The REASON I don’t mind PAYING for tools that enhance my home business is simple. The work is going to cost SOMETHING; either TIME or MONEY!
Dereco makes a good point too. Tools or Home Business Based Courses are an investment in OURSELVES. I still remember struggling trying to do everything the FREE way. Then, my mentor would remind me “Free” is sometimes the most expensive way to go!

I might add this point. “Investing” or “Buying” or whatever someone wants to call it – it is important to get the RIGHT tools and equipment.
I believe it is wonderful that you provide us with your “tool” box. Although I am familiar with most of the resources.

Some were new and I can’t wait to dig into one of them!

When you are passionate about ANYTHING, you don’t mind spending money on it. It’s just a matter of Priority as Ray Higdon put it.
People spend THOUSANDS on their “Hobby” but whine when told they need to invest in their home business.

    1. All of your reply was so on point and true!

I also definitely agree to make sure you are investing in the right tools! For me, I’ll pay more for ease of use and also good support (a must for me).

So true about the hobbies too. I know because I have a husband who loves to duck hunt and also fish but he travels to the gulf to fish and both hobbies are definitely not cheap! lol
